Door won't unlock
Hi guys,
Sorry, I tried searching the forum first but just couldn't quite find the right topic, so here I am asking: My car (79 300SD W116) sat for about 60 hours straight over the weekend (winter snow storm) and when I went out to unlock the door tonight, it wouldn't budge. At first I couldn't even get the key into the door, but that was quickly solved with some WD-40. So, what now? The key goes all the way in but then won't budge the lock. So if I can't unlock it, how can I get into the car? Thanks for the anticipated help, guys!

your locks are frozen, get some sort of heating element like a blow dryer and heat up the lock Warm water will work but may cause other problems later in the day after they freeze again.

Before installing remote locks (thanks to the suggestion of others here) our locks would freeze routinely after a rain then freezing temps. I had marginal luck preventing this by coating the key in ATF and inserting into the lock repeatedly to soak the internals.
When it would freeze, I would take an all metal key and use a small butane torch to heat the portion extending out of the lock. Using some thick leather gloves, I would attempt to turn the key after heating it for 30 seconds or so. Always did the job. Drop the key in the snow to cool it off. Harbor Freight sells these self-igniting torches for around $5.
