"new" 300cd

well, i will be picking up an old 300cd turbo soon. buying it off of one of my friends. i drove it this morning. it seems to run ok but seems very low on power. it was a quick drive (no plates) and i just wanted to make sure it ran for the time being, but as i recall i dont remember hearing the turbo. didnt seem to kick down when i gave her the boot. car has been sitting for about 4 months. any comments, suggestions, etc.? i am new to the mb world

Post pictures

1- Drain out all the old fuel in the tank through the tank screen filter........

2- Put in fresh primary and secondary fuel filters.

3- Fill 1/2 tank with fresh Diesel, some Startron diesel additive ( Marine suppply stores have this...)

and then see if it runs better.............

Good luck more details and post pic's .

strike up the banjo, do a search on the banjo bolt cleaning ,its a bolt that is in need of cleaning once in a while.Attaches to a clear vacuum hose located at the back of the intake.Note ,make sure you have both hands around that thing before you thread it off or it will fall into nowere land.dont ask.Clean it with carb cleaner of the car and the hose ,blow off with air and reinstall ,that always makes a big difference in the cars attitude on takeoff.

thanks for the insight all. ill post pictures as soon as i get it home and pick it up. he took all the speakers and stereo out so ill have to clean everything up too. he said someone told him there was sediment in the bottom of the tank, so ill have to look into that too. itll be nice to have scooting around town. both my suv and my temporary crappy van that i have been driving around town only get about 15mpg.

Well, it ain't algae, since algae requires sunlight.

Still haven't spotted what year it is.... pre 82 is non-turbo isn't it? That would effect performance expectations somewhat!

Usually a biocide will kill the bacteria in the tank and it will simply run out through the filters and burn off.

Then you can change the regular filters without draining the tank. Besides once you drain all that diesel what you gonna do with it?

hear the turbo

I was told you shouldn't be able to hear the turbo, unless it is failing. As for power do the suggest tank cleaning, fuel treatments for bad fuel, filter changes, banjo bolt cleaning, and proably a valve adjustment. Also keep in the back of your mind throttle linkages lubrication or adjustment, and the snake oil itself Diesel Purge....

Throw money at the problem..., just kidding. Keep us posted and post pics.

Congrats on the coupe.... I love mine.
