List of Items Mercedes no longer makes for the W123

Lets start a list of the parts Mercedes shows as "no longer available" at the dealer.
I'm starting to see this more and more.

617.952 Rebuilt long block engine
617.952 Rebuilt short block engine
B pillar lower trim plastic piece (123 692 02 22 and 123 692 21 22 )
240D center vent rubber duct ( 123 832 09 88 ), have to use the 300D one
240D center vent ( 123 830 04 54 ) Have to use a 300D vent

I will call the Mercedes Benz classic center about these parts tomorrow.
The engine I had 3 dealers check and the knowledgeable one said that probable all 617 engines are not available as rebuilds anymore.

I think someone said the mono valve housing is no longer available but I have not confirmed this.

Dave

Jan 8 2008 Just checked with the Classic center No rebuilt 617 engines are available. He also confirmed about the interior plastic parts.

Interesting note. they looked into manufacturing the dash for the W123 and said it would cost $3000 each.

My dealer told me he could get a 617 turbo crate engine (rebuilt) for about $7K a few months ago, he also told me that he had just sold a couple for use in snowcats. I also bought a complete new W123 monovalve from my indy about a year ago (I don't know where he got it).

All 3 dealers had the part numbers for the engine, but when they checked for availability it was not available.
The engines are available at Metric Motors

Good to here about the mono valve.

Dave

PS what dealer told you he could get the 617 motor?

Strange, it was "MB of Littleton" in Littleton, CO that I talked too. He pulled up something on his computer and gave me a price, I don't know if he actually checked availability because I told him I was just checking for future reference. They sure sounded like they believed they could get it.

Sun visors for the CD are NLA, as is the power passenger side mirror.

That means that I have to deal with not-so-nice sun visors and be extra careful NEVER to smash up that mirror. :-)

Actually any piece of interior trim neither blue nor black is no longer available anywhere not even Germany. That includes carpeting, dash, console, a, b and c pillars upper and lower trim, gate, back glass and windshield trim, wagon 3/4 back panel and tire cover. rail and side cover front seats trim, kick panels, side kick panels, door panels, window cranks, interior door handles, back doors, ash trays, leather velvet and cloth covers. also trunk liners and carpeting is gone

Basically all the pieces above are only available in vinyl (mbtex) black or blue. I wont enter each an every color and texture variation variation part numbers because that would be several pages of part numbers. Some Palomino covers and carpeting is still available through MBUSA but all the other colors are gone (back luck Euro W123 owners).

Now, on vinyl parts the limitation in colors is not very problematic coloring is possible with vinyl and leather paints, but on carpeting, and cloth some patterns are virtually impossible to get new.

Has anyone been able to find rebuild kits for the SLS valve and the hydraulic pump? I know that o-rings can be purchased that will work, but the SLS rebuild kit is supposed to come with a new piston assembly in addition to the 5 o-rings.

I've heard that new complete SLS valves are available ($600), so I wonder why not the rebuild kits.

I bought an SLS pump seal kit from George Murphy of Performance Analysis Company for $39.95, His phone number is 865-482-9175. Give him a call and ask for a catalog. He has a bunch of cool stuff.

but remember.. Mercedes Benz has the largest archives so if you need a new dash.. 40 years from now and you have the $$ they will make you one from scratch... if they can completly rebuild an SL than a dash shouldn't be that hard

plus I'm trying to get as much of my interior in factory black as possible.. I want to dye as little as possible..

I'm guessing that dash would be somewhere in the neighborhood of a $3000 or $5000 dash by the time you got it. Having to re-invent the dye, re-invent the material, re-invent the tools that made it, get a production shop to stop what they're doing to make it...

I'm not to worried, the classic center should pick up a lot of this. W123's are still pretty popular.

The W123 is an old car and many are getting crushed every year, heck the WVO craze is killing them like the black plague that wiped out half of Europe.

Its going to cost more, but we should be able to get parts for these for a very long time. MB has excellent parts support.

I don't imagine a large aftermarket supply will ever develop like there is for many US muscle cars and certain classics/antiques.

A few small things that I can remember:

The original W123 hood star is replaced by the stars on the W126, W201, W124
The red "DIESEL" sticker is replaced by the one from a W210, which is black

This is amazing, since support for replacement parts still goes on what, 20-something years after the last of them rolled off the line?

the laurel on the grill is a 126 part and doesn't fit right.

I will agree that Mercedes does keep a good amount of parts for these cars in stock.. as well as other manufactures of parts... Heck.. you cant get parts for a 15 year old ford at the dealership
