w123 non turbo speed tune up

i have a slow non turbo w123,im going to loosen valves,new air filter. anyone has any suggestions for speed improvements on the non turbos.
Engine has good compression and drives well.

your car doesn't have an alda try a good diesel purge and then see where your at.

Don't loosen the valves, adjust them correctly.

The only speed improvement options are 1- Get into proper tune 2- Sell it and buy a turbo 300D.

My '77 really improved when I reset the injection pump timing.

My 78 NA 300D improved with Marvel Mystery Oil in the fuel in a couple of tanks(8oz per 20gal). Readjusting valves will be next. Also I found there was a sweet spot in the throttle between 1/2 and full that got the best acceleration without over revving the engine.

a little power service wouldn't hurt either. Don't use more than recommended as it doesn't improve things much after you go past that mark.
