Diesel purge gone awry..........

I was purging my 300td which was going great until the level in the bottle got low and now I think the IP has lost its prime? I unscrewed the priming pump but the up and down motion doesn't seem to be doing anything!

It takes MANY pumps if you have a lot of air in the lines. You should upgrade the pump to the better Bosch primer.

Remember to fill up the spin on filter also. Pump like crazy until you hear the IP "buzz".

crack the #1 metal fuel line at the delivery valve and see if fuel is getting that far. If it is crack, pump and tighten the rest in progression, then try to start.

The hand primer will bleed the air out of the injection pump. But, if air got inside of the injector hard lines/tubes you may need to loosen the injector hare line nuts where the attach to the injectors. Crank the engine until you see fuel spurting out (bleeding the air out of the hard lines) and then tighten the nuts and see if your car will start.

Thank you thank you thank you, took a little while but it fired. Purge helped quite a bit. Got both my (fuel) filters changed and its running smoother and idling smoother.

This has happened to me before. It seems like the primer pump will not pump air so you have to get it full of fuel first. I found that lifting the plastic prefilter up and shaking it to drain some fuel into the primer inlet does the trick. Also, good advice to upgrade the newer style primer. Good Luck!

While on the "purge"topic - I scored a couple of bottles of Diesel Kleen (silver) the other day. Can I use that as a "purge fluid" or should I reserve that for a tank additive & go find some Lubo-Moly for the purge operation?

TIA, y'all
