Transmission pan drain plug lbs torque

How much do i tighten the bolts on my tranny oil pan after changing the oil/filter??
thanks
i do not want to overtighten.

usually 7-8 Nm

if you go too tight you will split the gasket

7Nm = 5.1 ftlbs or 61 inch pounds
8nm = 5.9 ftlbs or 70 inch pounds

all mercedes trans pans that i have done have the same general torque.i usually use a deca newton meter torque wrench which is X10

The one time I used a torque wrench is the one and only time I split the gasket. Use a 1/4" drive ratchet with one hand and tighten it evenly but gently and then drive and see if it leaks.

this reminds me of my buddy, he was putting a new pan on his freshly rebuild tranny, he got out the shop manual, read the torque, and proceded to break off THREE of the pan bolts before calling me to find out what he was doing wrong... he read the book to say 75 Foot lbs.... I told him there is NO WAY a 1/4" bold can handle 10 foot lbs... the book had to be either wrong or he was missing something in the chart... small note beside the info... inch lbs...
I must have teased him for months about that. To this day, I still call out INCH POUNDS when he is working on a tranny...

too funny, in my early days i would split the gasket just about everytime, until i started using the torque wrench lol. i have the touch now, and use the 1/4" drive as you do.
