Unhappy Good bye to Scar. A faithful parts car is finally gone.....

Scar came to live with me Aug. 6, 2006. The Hitman and his dad helped me go and get him. He was smashed in the rear, but had a good engine and tranny.
Well, his engine lives in China who is my daily driver. That alone was worth it. MustangMan298 {Chris} has Scar's manual tranny, shifter, pedals, linkages, driveshaft, etc..... The Squash has Scar's working cruise control amp. RRGrassi has his hood hinge lock tabs. I sent somebody his tank sender. I'm fixing to send somebody else the front bumper shocks. And no telling what I am forgetting....
This is pretty much where Scar has sat for the last year and a half. And, unfortunately, pretty much the first thing you see when you drive by or pull up to our house.

The wife hated this so.......
So, she helped me load him up today. We drug him up to the road, me on the tractor, her sitting on a milk crate in Scar, with the only brake being the emergency brake. We stopped him at the top of the driveway, I unhooked the tractor, and went barreling down the driveway, hoping to get at least partly up on the trailer. Well, not so much. So, plan B. I pushed him up on the trailer with the tractor, which went pretty well until I realized that the front of the tractor was no longer in contact with the driveway....

Whoops! Kinda freaked the wife out when the tail light busted. She thought the rear windshield was breaking. So, she was done at that point.
I just winched him up from there, and it was easy really.

Then it was off to PNP..........

It's about 20 miles to PNP, and Scar hung in there just fine. I'm always nervous towing something for the first few miles, but he was following me at every turn.

I had to wait forever at PNP for the girl who works the "buy" desk to get back from lunch. It is just staggering the amount of folks who come to PNP. It was just a steady flow for the 30 minutes I stood there and waited.
Well, she got back, did the paper work, went out and inspected poor old Scar and told me the missing engine, tranny and other things would be subtracted from the total. I also told her I was keeping the tires/wheels. {my only Bundts, although I'm a hubcap man, and two tires have less than a thousand miles.} I would have been perfectly happy for them to just accept him, I wasn't expecting much for him.
Also, earlier in the week I called them, and they said that somebody could just pluck him off my trailer with a forklift, so I didn't bring a jack or anything except for my lug removal stuff. Big mistake! Forklift dude wasn't there today. So, a group of guys that had brought a Grand Prix to sell pushed
Scar off the back of the trailer while I crouched inside and slammed the emergency brake before he could crash through the fence! {The most violent 2 seconds I have been through in a while. They had a good laugh out of it, though.}

I had to use the factory jack from my F-150. I jacked from the subframe area, which got both wheels on one side off the ground at the same time. On one side I wedged an uprooted pole/concrete piece.

On the other side I used a small spare tire with a big chunk of concrete on top. {I had to dig up the concrete}

This whole process, plus loading up the tires into the truck took almost an hour. I went back up to the office and she handed me a check and said they could cash it at the register. Now, I would have been happy with $40 bucks, and would have been content to just have a place to take him and be done with it. Looked at the check, and low and freakin behold, $166 bucks!!

Um, I was pleased!
Walked back out to the truck, pulled out of the parking lot, and snapped a pic of the last view of poor old Scar I will ever have.

Like I said, he was a faithful parts car.......

Thanks Jimmy! I enjoy a good story and this one has pictures to boot! You should take that 166 bucks and take the wife out for a great dinner just for putting up with your MB fetish. But, I bet you buy parts or another old fan!!

i know what thats like man, i just now became the owner of a parts car kind of like scar, only its the front thats mashed in, not the rear. (Means whiplash opposed to only being scared half to death) sad to see how many hours ive logged on that car only to rip it out to put it into another car.

Question

I liked the story and pictures a lot, but fail to understand how once can have affection for a parts car.

Maybe I am missing something.

Sorry if the question is stupid but what happened to the rims and tires? I could actually use some damage free rims. Were they part of your $166?

He said he was keeping them, that's why he went to the trouble of jacking the car up and removing them.

Good post, has me a little bit choked up I love the pics... it seems Scar was an appropriate name.

Looks like a lot of parts that could have been used. doors, glass, fenders,
hood,...

I is sad to see one more 123 gone for ever. I see them at our pnp`s all
the time. all that good sheetmetal gone for ever.
One of these days in the future we will be looking for some of these long
gone parts.

It`s good some of Scar is still living, and making another 123 heart beat
a little longer.

Charlie
