pry the switches out and swap them with the passenger side switches would be one way if the driver's side switches are at fault, or just find one switch that works and use it to close the windows
could be the window motors themselves

Have you checked your fuses? The drivers front and drivers rear are on different fuses. If your pass. rear works the it is not a fuse, as it is on the same fuse withj the drivers front. The pass front and drivers rear are on a seperate fuse.

Take you door panel off. In the lower RH corner is a connector block. Apply 12V to the two wires coming from motor.

At the switch connector, terminals 1 and 2 are connected to the motor. If you connect system voltage to one and ground the other, the motor will run. If it runs the wrong way, reverse the positive and ground.
Or you might try swapping the left and right switches. Last edited by tangofox007; 01-14-2008 at 02:23 PM. |

The '82 300D (beware of the year diffference) schematic shows that power to the front window switch is via a red wire at terminal 3. Power/ground to the motor is via a green and black wire at terminal 1 and 2, respectively. Terminal 4 is a brown ground wire for the switch. The blue wires should be for the lights on the switch rockers.
There should be some numbers on the switch or the connector that identify the terminals. Last edited by tangofox007; 01-14-2008 at 02:35 PM. |

Okay, I think the black and green are the ones you want. When the switch is in the neutral position, both of those wires are hot with system voltage. When the switch is actuated, one of the hot wires is switched to ground and the motor runs. When the switch is moved to the opposite direction, the opposite wire is connected to ground and the motor runs in the opposite direction.
To get the front window up, it looks like the black wire need 12 volts and the green wire needs a connection to ground. |
