'91 350SD serpentine belt

How the heck do you change the belt? Do you loosen that front top shock and spring assembly. Or is like any other car you loosen the alternator, or power steering pump or some other accessory? I had an '86 300SDL changed the belt when I did the water pump. Forgot how to do it, I guess, absolutely lost!

Remove the nut at the top of the spring on tensioner assembly. Put a bar in the hole on top of the tensioner assembly plastic thing. Release tension and push bolt twards firewall. Pull Belt off. - that how the SDL works, should be similar.

I knew that I had forgotten that it was something simple. It is indeed just like the 300SDL. I can't believe that I screwed around with the blasted thing for an hour before asking for help. It was cold, windy and getting dark fast. Thanks again!

Remember put the new belt around the outside of the entire mess - straighten out a close hanger and slide down driver side of tensioner. Grab bottom of belt with hanger and pull straight up - and put on tensioner.

Pulling the doubled belt up between the pulleys is a pain (same layout as the 606); I tie a string to the belt, fish that through and use it to pull the belt through.

I start at the tensioner. Put the belt around the tensioner and shove the sides of the belt into the gap. The gap is so small that it's nearly impossible to get the end of the belt through the gap.

I can R & R the belt in five minutes once the tensioning bolt is removed.........and I don't need any coat hangers or string............
