300DT alternator/water pump belt??

So my water pump/alt belt is loose and cracked. I have been puting it off bc it's the low 10s outisde and don't have a garage. However I need to get this done bc I'm planing to go on a longer trip.
The guys at Autozone said it's only 1 belt...howerver my eyes tell me that there are 2 skinny belts!?
Is there a tensioner? or any tips on how to get the old ones off easily??
Thanks in advance

three 17mm bolts on back of alternator loosen them all. also there is a nut above the alt pulley that needs LIBERAL amounts of PB Blaster sprayed on it BEFORE you try to loosen it.
it will break if you don't! NOT WD40, PB Blaster. trust me. after the back bolts are all loose, loosen the adjuster nut all the way out. and the alt will drop against the block. you Might not have enough space to get the new belts on even in this position, you may have to take out the inner most bolt closest to the block and get the alt all the way against the block.
have fun.
next, you need to get metric sized belts. not the "close enough" ones that mcparts sells.
you do need a perfect matched set from the same run if possible.

The belt change shouldn't take all that long. Get underneath the right front of the car so you have access to the alternator. Loosen the adjustment bolt and pull off your old belt(s). There should be two that go back on. I used the Duralast brand, part #15395 from Autozone. Remember, you'll need two.

The other belts are:
power steering - #17450
A/C compressor - #17365

Hope this helps.

Cool, you may not want to loosen the adjusting bolt all the way, just enough to remove the old belts. I get 'em on almost, and with a remote starter switch, "bump" the engine over, and it, one at a time, pops on. Then tighten the adjuster bolt, and the other two.

Duralast #15395 is to short and did not work.I don't know how you managed to put that on...I bought them and after 1h later I gave up!
Duralast #15405 is the correct part number for the alt/water pump.
Anyway the adjusting screw was broken and the belts were a bear to put back on. I did manage somehow with a pry bar to get good tension on the new belts and tighten the top sliding bolt. In the same time I got to change the PS belt too with no problems.
I drove 200miles already since yesterday and all the belts are still tight. I'm not going to worry abt the broken tension adjusting screw on the alt bracket ...I will keep my eyes on it tough.

I would worry about the broken adjuster. In a few days the belts will start to slip and you will be tempted to over-tighten the other bolts to keep tension on them. Best is to get a new adjusting bolt. I know as it happened to me...

I got mine at a junkyard. I am sure that if Phil does not carry them you can get one at the dealer. You can also ask around the forum I am sure somebody has an extra, in fact I might have one in a box of parts I have collected. Let me check for you...
