oil pressure gauge question
The upper limit stop pin for the oil pressure gauge broke off while I was repairing the circuit board wiring. Now the needle swings CCW to an 8 o'clock position at running RPM. Any harm being done?

You might over stretch the coil that expands when there is pressure, I know i have a air pressure gauge rated for 300psi, i pumped 400 through it and now its stuck at 50psi when it should read 0 psi.

He is right. Not only do you risk the needle being stuck at an incorrect position but you risk the tube breaking from the added stress of overextending which will spew oil in your dash.

I may have a spare guage for the 240?

My oil pressure gauge was sticking at the lower pin, the zero pressure side. I removed the gauge from the cluster, which meant removing the needle from the gauge. I re-lubed the gauge mechanism. On re-assembly, I reclocked the needle 90 degrees anti-clokwise so that it doesn't hit the upper pin on full pressure, but rests on the lower pin on anything less than 3 bar. At 65mph running pressure, the gauge displays slightly less than 2 bar, which with the needle re-clocking, would really mean slightly less than 5 bar. Been than way for several months, guage still a little sticky, but now I can watch the oil pressure at normal driving speed rather than knowing I've got at least 3 bar above 20 mph. Cold engine oil begins at 5.5 bar in the morning.
This may now answer the comments, but it's a similar situation. Gerry |

He didn't mention if it was on the 300SD or the 240D.....one is electric and one is mechanical.....

cant you just make a little pin and glue it in? Maybe drill out the old broken off one, and glue a piece of cut up paper clip in there

I already bought it from you! That's the one I broke the pin off of. Better put on the pointy party cap again Tom!
