I love my car. (0-60)

http://youtube.com/watch?v=w09lUQCLk0U

It seems that when i uploaded it and youtube converted it, you can no longer see the 60 mark on the speedo. It was 12.5 seconds, completely stock.

Has anyone done better?

also notice the turbo lag, it kicks in at 2500 rpm. One thing i love about these car is that their loud in the cabin, but not to loud. And isnt that just a great noise anyway?

Nice I love my 87 300D as well.. Ultimate highway cruiser with a perfect balance of around town power to spare. Got to love that sweet spot right between 70 and 80! I also love how mine sounds, the turbo sounds especially nice next to a guard rail on the highway.

Dude i totally know! 75mph is the absolute best cruising speed! The 85 with the rear end ratio cruises at about 3300 rpm at 75mph

Remember that an accurate 0-60 time requires a run on the same stretch of road in opposite directions.

12.5 seconds for an 82-85 300D/CD/TD is much too low and I question the accuracy of the run. 14-15 is what it should be for a stock W123 turbodiesel.

I get 12 seconds consistantly, but I use the one-thousand one, one-thousand two method

Seriously though, I'm sure it's faster than 14 seconds. Is it possible that an 85 with the smog equipment removed, trap oxidizer replaced, and bowman cable adjusted for later shifts could achieve faster times? Could the higher gear ratio make any difference?

I'll try to get more accurate times today or tomorrow, but I know you guys will want some video proof if I come back with 12 seconds again!

theo get a video and lets prove them wrong. Trust me, my 85 kicks ass. Remember this is a federal with only 120 k on it. Every maintence thing that could be done, was done as the first owner for the first 80 k was an pilot. Im confident that this car can reproduce these results on any flat road, both directions.

Turbobenz - Mine's pretty well maintained too, a recent valve adjustment seemed to improve the idle, but acceleration has always been pretty strong and smooth. The only thing that seems to slow it down are dirty injectors - which some Diesel Kleen and Chevron takes care of.

Let me guess, you've adjusted the ALDA.

I've been trying to come up with an explaination as to how we can achieve faster than spec times, and the ALDA probably has the most effect, with the Bowden cable and smog equipment removal contributing relatively less. I'm sure even the skeptics agree that some improvement is possible, but the amount of improvement is what's in doubt.

The alda is untouched, and it needs a valve adjustment as it idles rather rough. I would fiddle with it, but I like to keep it as untouched as possible, Ill do that to the sd im getting today. There is zero smoke out the back, so I guess i could enrich it some with the alda, but Im happy where it is.

You might want to do a instrument cluster lighting upgrade. Seriously not a bad time at all.

If you insist on say stuff like this without proper testing you ought to hang out over at Benzworld and stay there.

empty tank helps too...... Seems reasonable to me. I moved my shift points around 4000 and let the motor wind out. seems like this is counter to factory tune and would result in better than advertised numbers, but Im no expert

I don't want to speak for Turbobenz, and I'll concede that I don't know anything, but I fail to see how unrealistic claims about 0 - 60 times warrants a statement like that.

You're probably on to something about the speedometer. IIRC, the speedo on the 85 is different from earlier years; maybe they just read fast?

I still say that it's possible that tweaking the ALDA etc. can produce faster than stock times. After all, it's not 100 % stock after any such change. There's also the (admittedly highly unlikely) possibility that the listed specs are wrong.

In any case, yes, sub 13 second times are for all intents and purposes impossible, but I don't think any one's hurt with such "disinformation". It's not like saying that it's OK to run without an air filter or the like.
