Met an "original owner" today 85 300D turbo

Any original owners out there?

I met a chap today at the WInn-Dixie parking lot that was driving an 85 300D. He said he bought it new in the fall of 84 and it only had 115,000 miles on it.

He said his wife was nagging him recently about "trading" it in for something else, and he said he wanted to keep his benz...

Anyone buy their ride new (excluding anything after 1985)

I hope you gave him your name etc. Never overlook a chance to get a good one if it was and the price might surprise you. Dealers may allow very little on a trade.
Thats how I got my first fintail. The owner felt he was only getting 600.00 in real dollars from the dealer to take it in on trade on his new ford continental.
So I got it for that and mercedes dealerships were prying about 5k from buyers for that car at the time.

Well, I bought my black Chevy PU brand new in '79 and still have it, but none of the Mercedes are original.......

My wife still has her '69 Beetle, of which she is the first and only owner. It isn't a Benz, of course, but at least it's German. :D

original owner..close

Note quite an original owner but close..3 Owners..1 family. My uncle Paul bought it brand new Feb. 1983. I believe he had it until 1991. My grandfather had it from '91-99. Then he passed away and I bought it from my grandmother in 1999. Been going strong since.

original owner

I'm the original owner of my '01 CLK55 with a whopping 9,500 miles so far.

The 84 300sd was in the family - handed down from mom at 241K miles.

Original owner with wife who would prefer I update my $39.000 300sd.

well not original but the original owner was my aunt. pretty cool story was that is was a euro delivery program. she went out to Germany were her husband was stationed and she bought the car there in Germany and drove it around all over Europe during her stay over there. So I can say that my car has been on the German Autobahn.:D

FRANKNBENZ 01-20-2008 06:03 PM

Sindelfingen for $18,500.

:D

Old Blue, bought new. Great ride, now died. Bangs and strife, how? Ask the wife!!!

Old Blue is under the tarp on the right of the Pix. The other two 85's are transplant recipients many times over.

keep it in the family

Very interesting how half of these are kept in the family.

Maybe you guys can give details on how you obtained yours if passed down, or given to someone in the family.

Mine was bought from my grandfather who was the original owner.
He put ~250K on it, and had gobs of service records (all blank as the carbonless paper is wont to do).
Fortunately the shop he has gone to for the last 15 years still is in business and covers me on jobs I can't handle myself. Good relationship, as they agree with me the car has issues that are quite fixable (and worth it if you do it yourself) but not worth fixing at shop rates. I'll be pulling my rear half axles and driving them in late Feb, where they will inspect and rebuild as appropriate (since they have the tools and such).

I saw a 300D in Atlanta about a month ago. The light blue color (like China Blue). It looked like it had been completely restored, but when I asked the owner he said that it was his graduation gift in '82. He had over 300K on it, and it was the NICEST W123 I have ever seen. It looked like it was just driven off the showroom floor. Spotless. He had no plans on ever getting rid of it, and I can't blame him.

I wish I could have taken a picture of it.

Heck, I didn't ask if he was a member here. Could very well be.
