Thumbs down Another 123 death

1985 300D 191K on the clock rear ended yesterday by a one ton van. Very hard hit 50 MPH plus. Displaced the rear of the car about 4" on the non impact side. My son 19 was not injured except for whip lash. I was amazed how much that sheet metal crumpled to within a 1/4" of the rear glass but no glass shattered. I hate to think what neon or a toyota would have looked like. Car is totaled. Starting the insurance company BS now.

Sorry

All 1985 300D owners grieve with you. Glad your son was not seriously injured. Make sure you do everything possible medically to ensure that problems do not crop up later; 19 is a terribly young age to have your back messed up permanently. Get professional advice before signing anything -- all the sensible precautions that I'm sure you were planning to do anyway.

If the front end of the car is undamaged you may be able to salvage a few things -- perhaps worth buying the car back from the insurance company?

Jeremy

I was rear-ended or more appropriately bumped into from the rear today at a yield sign for a round-about, coffee all over. It crunched the cheap plastic around the other drivers license plate on a 'new'-ish camry. Poor woman said she was a nervous wreck after the water pipes had frozen in her house. She thanked me for not calling the police and I stuck with a smile and waved goodbye. Hopefully, she later recalls the kindness more than the event.

I'm glad to hear your son wasn't severely injured.
Sorry about the car. . .

eBay and/or CL can get you another one and I'd prolly buy another
since you now know how safe they are.

Good luck to you both,

Have your son see a doctor religiously. Insurance companies don't tend to believe anything other than doctors bills. Trust me on that one. If the other insurance carrier was Farmers I strongly suggest getting a lawyer *now*.

a lawyer is a must, please get one. Even If you dont plan on getting extra money get one. The accident that i had about a year ago, i was screwed out of alot of money that was really mine. As for medical just go and the lawyer if needed will take care of the rest. I am really serious please get a lawyer.

Not to diminish you tragedy but you reminded me of a “glass” story. Someone cut my Father of on the Freeway a he went all the way to the right to avoid a collision. He hit the curb with both passenger side wheels broadside and rolled his car 2 ½ times (he rolled in an area landscaped with ice plants) with the car finally stopping on its top and my Father hanging upside down. No glass was broken.
A tow truck came and wrapped a bunch of nylon straps around the car and proceeded roll it back over on its wheels. When it landed on its wheels the wind shield popped out and broke.
My Father was only bruised up and except for the dented top and the broken windshield there was very little damage to the car. The ice plants had cushioned the blows.
