Isn't it funny that Californians can outlaw diesels on emotional rhetoric and less on fact while Junkies get free medical care with 4 doctors perclinic and a whole medical staff at their disposal AND free needls to shoot up with at taxpayers expense of $1.2 MILLION per clinic and getting clean is NOT a requirement? The doctors are there just in case someone overdoses, like on heroin, and they are revived. I always thought that if you dumb enough to shoot drugs into your body, death was an occupational hazard!!

Yeah, I HATE stupidity, and even worseI hate paying for it! Let 'em croak!

I have to agree. I hate this state... or should i say its government. why is it that the most beautiful of all the states, and the one with my family in it, the one that i call home is being controlled by such wackos.

I got very excited in 2003 when the people of California stood up and gave Governor Davis the Boot. I even put a bumper sticker on the Benz (its been removed and there is no evidence of it) The sate seemed to be moving forward under The Governator, but even a cybernetic organism from the future couldn't stop the bullship the lives in downtown Sacramento. He just had a press conference saying that he was wrong when he took office and has sense learned that that politics is more complicated then he thought and that the people in the state government are all doing a great job... thats not the cyborg I Elected! who reprogrammed him!

so yeah... someone release a super flu in Sacramento so all the rest of you can come see the wonders of this state without having to deal with the wackos.

The reason they are doing this is that one of the major pollutants in southern CA are trucks that move freight from San Pedro and Long beach harbors, (the two biggest freight ports in the USA) are generally old trucks that produce a lot of pollutants. This is thousands of trucks per day on the Harbor freeway on a scale that few city's see . So much as i like freedom, i like to breath even more. As for this Go ahead and move to Mexico, Have you read about the drugs war in Tijuana? But at least you would have your car. There are many reason to hate a Government, But to hate them over diesel regulation is ridiculously,. Anyway good luck in Mexico.

'check this out.
my dad just e-mailed me a scan of this card they sent him.

because the government Hates old cars as much as I HATE the GOVERNMENT
and they HATE Diesels. because better fuel economy and soot that falls to the ground is so much worse the exhaust gases that eat holes in the atmosphere.

This makes me want to move to Mexico. '

yep... I'm the wacko.. i'm the one the one who CHOOSES to live in LA the sestpit of the STATE!

you steal our water to make that desert you CHOOSE to live in a city. have you seen what you have done to the Owens River valley. that place use to look like the garden of eden then William Mulholland came and piped all the water to LA. go for a drive some time and look at that place. it is a desert. you a citizen of LA turn a valley from one of the most productive places to grow crops in California into a desert, and I'm the wacko. you can deal with the pollutants in LA any way you want... up here where the air and the water aren't polluted... let us live the way we want.

PLEASE L.A. STOP SCREWING UP CALIFORNIA

and yes i am a WACKO because if i had my way I'd stop the flow of water from the central valley that FEEDS you.

you must have missed it when i posted my photo...

thats why I'm not in charge!

You want to take diesel trucks that deliver the food to those 15million people off the road. that is why I'm glad your not in charge.

here is a link to the California water wars. you can read about all the havoc the mare existence of your city has caused on this state.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/California_Water_Wars

just be glad for what you have and please don't impose on the rest of us.

Man! What a flamewar this has become!
Please no superflu in Sac... I live there.

As to water to LA, this has been an issue for ever. Part of the problem is that the central valley and north half (excluding SF Metro area) is very Red, with the lions share of the lad mass and resources, but the ports and south of the grapevine are very Blue. Honestly LA only became so big because teh water was brought from the north. Now that they are a majority population they can vote more water in to support larger populations and the north can't stop the flow, meanwhile we are preparing for summers with not enough water as a result. Hence the resentment/anger.

I'm really with SirNick on this as well, though maybe not as drastic. I would simply halt any increases in flow, with a 1% decrease per year for 20 years. If LA wants to pay to cover and line the open tranches currently used to transport water they would still see an increase in available supply. Upwards of 50% evaporates on its way to LA.

networkboy, you can sure tell we are looking south at the problem, and he is looking north.

I went to Folsom Lake about a month ago and the water is still very low. we don't have long to fill that lake back up so the people of LA can take it from us again. it happens every year.

I lived in Mammoth Lakes for a summer. one of the most beautiful places I've ever been. but you can see once you leave the city going back down the hill. it goes from being a beautiful mountain town with huge trees and everything is green instantly to desert. that is not natural. my mom and i went for a walk in the desert, and you see a huge barbwire fence with signs saying Property of the City of Los Angeles.

its amazing how people in LA don't seem to see impact their city has on the state unless it hits them in the face... literately when it comes to the Diesel Exhaust issue.

Gee-zus what a rollercoaster this thread turned into.....

Now, it is this widespread ignorance and intolerance that is the very fuel of which the ideas are born from that began this thread, FYI not ALL Californians are loving the whole thing, or all the laws here, or the politicians deciding on their own without our votes, they are doing ALL of us everywhere (that includes BOTH YOU & I) a big favor of some kind regardless of where we live. Yeah we have elections and such, but not every issue gets put on them for us to vote on, some go right to the politicians in congress to do that for us. Yeah, we could all run around and play musical chairs with our living choices, but do we really gain anything from it? It's just like changing jobs over a disagreeance with your boss, every single job has someone somewhere above you that will have a differing opinion over something than you. Running from the issue or blaming others doesn't help to stop the problem, only changes its form a bit. Same with changing states, theres still always crime, and crooked politicians and what not, maybe this state had a sex scandal, but the other state had a monopoly fraud problem..etc.Those who blasted Californians (or any others because of where they happened to live) should be ashamed of themselves for their blind ignorance. I live in Ca, and am the very exception to the rule, living off grid, living out in the sticks away from the hectic crowds, driving a few diesels, etc. I also happen to be the minority of general opinion in the populus, so ignorant people who don't even know me or who I am curse and blame me for things I even disagree with. I could go on for hours, but why, ignorance is bliss as they say, and why would anyone want to give up their bliss. Nothing I say will change that or them, and that is exactly why these laws and these flame threads continue to move on and exist in our societies.

NOW, that said, lets get this topic back on track where it belongs. So this guy got a letter saying something about diesels, yet nobody has yet exactly layed out or explained just what exactly it is. Are they going to smog them? Are they going to fine you for owning one? Are they going to gouge you on fuel? (Not that they already aren't) It just seems like everyone went flashing off on their own tangents and nobody actually knows what this is yet. I'm surprised I never got one, maybe because I'm not near the "big hub" as SirNik is. They just want to take a small sample of opinion from the nearby people who the mass majority they know likes their ways of thinking probably.

What i understand is the card i posted was mailed to my dad from the Air Resources Board (ARB). the law they are trying to pass will only effect commercial vehicles. I'm assuming that is why my dad got one and not me. he has an F350 thus registered as a commercial vehicle.

my dad has been hearing roomers through work (he works for a major power producer) that the ARB was planning on cracking down on diesel exhaust. and then he got this card in the mail, as a warning that the law may change.

one of the reasons i posted this was to see if others may have gotten this card in the mail. but i wouldn't be surprised if none of the other Cal people have commercial vehicles if no one else got one.
