'01 Diesel A-Class on eBay

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=6315&viewitem=&item=110217163792&_trksid=p3907.m29

Kinda neat. I don't like it so much, its a little awkward looking and its not that nice inside but its a Benz.

4 cyl Diesel and I think CVT trans.

Its even got a US VIN but they say no way to register it...anyone know anything about that?

I'd love to have one of those, I think it'd be kinda cool, despite not being that luxurious. It'd be tempting as all hell to just throw a license plate from a correctly-registered something else on the car and just not break traffic laws. lol.

Avoid like the plague. Awful cars, and absolute pigs to work on.

'If you're looking for an alternative to high gas prices. . ."
Uhm, but you can't legally DRIVE it on the road so why would the buyer care about
high fuel prices. IT's gonna sit in a garage somewhere.

Interesting car though.

I think they'll be available here late 08 or early 09.

They are popular in Europe. By our standards they are a lil bigger than a high top tennis shoe.

Roger Penske has just started selling them in the USA, this week! I forget what they call them over here, I think SMART CAR. I'll try to find it's home site, and I'll post it later, if someone knows, post it please.

It says 2001. They have been for sale for over 7 years! We haven't been able to buy them, because it would be a violation of our laws. Ain't right.

It was listed before and did not sell. I saw it in December. Why would anyone buy a car they can't register?

Exactly, it can't be driven on US roads unless you have a temp diplomat license. It would just be an $18,000 garage queen.

There must be a way to register these cars. Ive seen many (at least 5) downtown and most recent in chinatown and in daly city with california plates. I mean if its really expensive as people say it is to import a car why would you import a cheap econobox benz?

What you are probably seeing is the Swatch designed Smart Car, not an A-Class.

I know the B-class is available in Canada. Can you bring it to the US if you emigrate here?

Five years or so ago if you were a Canadian you could not even bring your own golf or jetta diesel into the states if you transfered there. The tdi series might have been allowed. The smart diesel version car might be somewhat cute but not a real highway car.
They might go fast enough but I think you would not like to be the occupant. Kind of a novelty car around here. We have quite a few locally.
The more you see on the road the smaller they become. I think you can park them on a 4X8 sheet of plywood. This guy is asking about the canadian list price for a new smart car I believe. Not really suitable for the north american market again unless only used in moderate sized cities perhaps. The cute component of them wears fast. I see too many of them traded in on car lots. So something is wrong.

That's definitely not a smart car. It's a stupid car if you can't drive it in the US.
Man, is it FUGLY!
