Up for my consideration - A Euro 300D wagon

I may be going to look at a 1980 300TD wagon tomorrow.
Small bumpers. US headlamps. Manual climate controls. Automatic. Has attractive 15" alloys from a '90s model.
Some rust. Seller claimes well under 200K miles and is asking $1000

Question - I know the 240Ds have a 3.69 rear, and the non-turbo 300Ds have 3.47, Does anyone know if the '80 Euro non-turbo 300D or TD has a different rear-end ratio than the US version?

Happy Motoring, Mark

It might be hard to find in a search, but gsxr is the shopforum guru on rear end gears, and he has posted quite a bit on gearing for 124 and 123 cars.

The problem is "Some rust." Personally, I would never buy a rusty car regardless of price.

Well, I bought a rusty 240D for $225, and since repairing the floors, and patching a few other spots, it's been a decent car. I wouldn't buy this one wthout a thourough inspection. If the seats and seatbelts are still solidly attached, and the floors are mostly intact, with just a couple "small holes" as the seller claims, I might buy it, but this car is 160 miles from me, so I'm not sure I'll even go for a look. If only it was a stick-shift!

That's OK as long as you understand that rust is terminal and you are just buying temporary transportation. The parts on the wagon may be worth the $1000 anyway, it all depends on condition.

Never hurts to look. My car was advertised as rusty because of a paint chip.

Well around here, as well as much of the East-Coast, I consider most cars that aren't garaged, and are subjected to a wet and salty environment to be 'temporary transportation'. That said, I managed to get 5 years of more than occasional use and enjoyment out of my very-rusty '60 Fintail.
As for that Euro 300TD, It ran great, but was more rusty than either of my 240Ds, so I passed.

I understand, I grew up on the east coast. Before I escaped, I would always own a winter beater for use on snow days.
