1969 207d pickup?

Has anyone in the Dallas area looked into this one?
http://dallas.craigslist.org/car/555211534.html
I am in the area visiting and was mildly interested until I got an unhelpful response from the seller to an email requesting a photo and some additional information about condition and paperwork. He told me to "read the adv," which I had already done. Probably a basket case, but also could be a good opportunity to aquire/rescue an interesting old workhorse diesel truck. Mainly just curious. I can't find a reference to a 207d truck or van prior to 1977, but I see that older service manuals are available, so pre 1977 vehicles must exist.

Dan went by to see it. It ain't a pretty sight. Even the seller told him he hoped Dan had a strong stomach before he arrived.

Something is odd about the description. I don't think the 616 engine existed in 1969. Seems to me that a 1969 would have been the front wheel drive Hanomag version with the 615 engine? Perhaps it's just listed as the wrong year.

I didn't feel like pushing my luck by quizzing the guy, but I thought maybe he was ten years off with the model because of the 240 engine, unless its a transplant, which is entirely possible. Anyway, braver enthusiasts that I will have to pursue this one!

Was it the 'rounded' body style or the boxy van style? The square boxy vans weren't around in 69.

Here's a history of the vans with pictures:

Hmmm I'd take it for the 5 speed and part out the rest if I had the money...

I'd be careful on that 5-speed business with that one. This is probably one of those cases where reverse is being counted as a speed.

I really doubt an engine that small in a body that big/heavy could even maintain speed in 5th gear.

It all depends on the final drive ratio....and or first could be a creeper.

The XX7d or XX9d's had 5 spds in the vans. 1st is a granny gear. You don't want it in a car.
