Shutoff valve??
Hi there--I have an 82 300SD that is developing an annoying problem. I shut it off after driving several miles and then go to restart it a few minutes later and it gets no fuel. My suspicion was the shutoff valve so I removed the vacuum line but it still would not start. Towed it home and didn't have time to look at it for a few days. When I did get time, I tried to start it and it started immediately. Drove it to work the next day and it started fine after work. Drove it a few miles and shut it off, went into the store, and when I tried to restart it, it acted once again like the injection pump wasn't pumping. Came back two days later, tried again and it started.
Have read about the shutoff valve, which is actually a vacuum device that pulls a lever inside the injection pump. The usual problem with these things is that the diaphram leaks and the engine won't shut off. Am wondering if anyone out there has heard of the shutoff valve sticking in the "off position" or is there something else inside the pump that is sticking, a broken spring or what??
