FYI for anyone following, I just got an automated email from ATP Turbo stating that my order had shipped, so I guess the "special actuator" is in stock, at least for the time being.

Only bummer is I was about to contact them to see if I could change my order to get more of the silicone hose - I only ordered 2 feet, and looking at pictures of the install, I'm not sure that will be enough to reach from the actuator to one of the test ports on the intake manifold. No biggie, though - I'll measure when it arrives, and re-order or locally require new line as needed.

I'm just glad the actuator isn't NLA or on extended back-order like before.

Packages arrived from ATP Turbo and Summit Racing. All the parts I detailed in post #624 play well together - the silicone hose fits snugly on both the NPT/barb fitting and the "special actuator's" fitting. But the 2 feet I ordered is not going to be nearly enough.

I'm thinking about ordering a bunch more, and just using it to replace vacuum lines throughout the engine compartment. Anyone know why that wouldn't work? Is the 1/8" ID appropriate for the application?

Couple more questions: the Y fitting that connects the ALDA, IM, and EDS - do I have to remove the line going to the EDS, since it doesn't need boost signal anymore? Or is this somehow tied into the idle control?

Secondly, is it advisable to retrofit the '90-'91 overboost protection onto my '92? Someone mentioned this was trivial, but I can't find any info on it. Wouldn't mind protecting the engine from itself, but maybe overboost isn't a real concern on these motors under normal circumstances. Still, if it's easy and cheap, I'd definitely consider it.

Thanks!

The EDS or pressure sensor is not tied to the idle control. Idle control will function correctly with or without this connection.

I'd worry about over boost protection after you see what boost pressures you are really getting when driving under full load.

Im interested in doing this swap soon, this thread is so much to read. Is there a pipe somewhere in the thread that removes the egr setup?

When you remove all the vacuum routing from the passenger side of the engine, the EGR is offline...the valve will stay closed (unless it is somehow stuck open). If you want, you can install a block-off plate.

Not necessary to drill and tap the turbo several pictures are shown in the above thread. You require intake manifold pressure to control the waste gate with the pressure controller.

Welcome to the forum!

So, I have read this entire post several times as I have been having issues with the vacuum actuators on my 1990 300D for months. Turbo not working half the time, AC not staying cold, rough shifts, etcl, etc. Vacuum leaks are a nightmare. Changed it out this weekend and forgot to shorten the rod - wastegate was staying open. Shortened the rod tonight and car runs terrific! Great acceleration from dead stop, AC blows cold, shifts almost perfect. Thanks again for the many contributors to this post! Many thanks

I know that I'm reviving an old thread but I'm at a loss. ATP turbo no longer has access to the Garrett wastegate actuator 433489-12 or 433489-0012. I have checked with many turbo rebuilders across the US and still have not found an actuator. Does anyone know a cross reference to a similar actuator so I can get this 300D back on the road?
