Hit a Gate Today

Today when I was pulling into the back parking lot at one of my grease collection spots I started pulling into the space next to the dumpster, which had the gate open. I misjudged the distance between my front end and the gate and *SLAM!* hit the gate hard with the right front corner of my bumper. The gate was being held open by one of those thick-ish metal poles that sticks in the ground.

Immediately I jumped out to survey the damage. Nothing on the car. Not even a tiny dent on the bumper. The pole on the gate, on the other hand, was bent.

Gotta love these cars with their big sturdy bumpers.

Probably slid on the grease. Another hazard of the fad...

Yeah there's not much that can stop a W116..... That pole didn't stand a chance......

The only time I've hit something was when I was turning around on our street in the snow (last winter) I slid and hit a neighbor's (thankfully a friend) mailbox pole.....bent it into a boomerang shape. They didn't care and to this day it has a slight odd-shape to it. (I was able to bend it back...mostly) No damage to my car or bumper though.

So, was it a hit and run? Or did you offer to repair that gate pin since they were so kind to be giving you this free fuel for however long?.......The big american moral dilemma...(drumroll please!)

Better a bent pole than a bent car.

Must be U.S. W116. If it were a Euro, with those tiny, practical joke bumpers on it, something would have gotten trashed in the event. I suppose as ugly as the big ridiculous U.S. bumpers are, and as much as they deface these cars, they can come in handy on such occasions as these....LOL.

The gate pin was bent, but still usable. I bent it back into shape as much as possible.

The Vietnamese/Thai restaurant owners didn't care for two reasons:
1) Waste Disposal Services owns the dumpster, not them.
2) It was their neighbor, Subway's dumpster.
