1995 W124 Estate Water Leak thru Heater

Over the weekend, I went looking for a rattle from the passenger side footwell. I found the loose relay behind the footplate - but, my carpets and the foam beneath them were soaking wet.

I took out the trim around the centre console and footwell areas. By playing the garden hose around the front of the car, I got some water leaking in.

This looked to be round the heater, so I stripped out the wiper motor and trims around the heater intake under the bonnet. I flushed some water through the drains which drain out in the gearbox tunnel, and these drains ran free.

Looking more closely, the water is leaking into the car where the heater comes through the bulkhead - effectively where the bulkhead and transmission tunnel meet. From the engine bay side of the heater, I can't see how to strip it down any further - I can't see the heater motor for example. The heater is a Diavia unit which doesn't seem to be described in any of the technical literature I have.

Has anyone had any dealings with these units or any experience with this type of water leak?

Thanks

George

if you are sure that the water is coming from the outside of the car, and not from the heater core or related connections, I would try spraying some rubberized undercoating around the area if possible, and see if that stems the leak. I have also used fiberglass epoxy, filler and cloth to stop leaks when there is enough room to work in.
