Brakes from 79SD to 81SD?

The beater got new front brakes (rotors, calipers, pads) about 400 miles ago.
Since I'm pretty much at the point where it's now a parts car for mine, I'm looking at other cars.
On the Boulder CL there is a full greasecar converted 81 SD that needs front brakes. Will the 79 front brkaes fit with the 81?
I know the body changed in 81 to the W123 right?
Thanks for all the help gentlemen, you rock.

Ginny-

Yes, I think the brakes from a 79 300SD will fit an 81 300SD. But the 81 is a W126- that was the sucessor to the W116, not the W123.

Since you are getting into this, best to do your own research rather than take someone's word for it ( unless that person has actually first-hand done a W116 to W126 swap). Check the parts indexes on fastlane here and see if the appropriate part #s are teh same for both cars. Also, its good to get familiar with the EPC if you really want to confuse yourself.

I need the chassis number to make sure the parts are the corrent ones.
The Russion vin search only does 1980 and above. I need to search a 79.

The door tag says the car was made in 5/79.
Vin is 11612012009776

Help?

Do what I do: Go to AZ********.com (or your preferred parts retailer) and look up both cars and see if the part numbers match up or not.

In your case, it doesn't look like they do. This is the comment listed with the calipers: For models with chassis serial number from 014084.

The rotors have this message: For Federal models from chassis 017084 and California models from chassis 014085.

I was actually hoping it'd work because I've got a line on an 80 w116 that I was going to get the brakes for my roadster

I bet they are interchangible. The early sd brakes may be solid rotors like the 123.
