Heater fan question

Today the fan for the heat and A/C started to make strange noises and then shut down, if I turn it off for a while and then try it again it does this again. I guess the questions are, how do I access the blower motor and can I change the bearings and brushes?

Access should be easy. Under the pass side dash. There are 4, #2 phillips screws, on the outer edge of fan cover. Remove these and then there are 3 more #2 phillips screws at the outer rim of the assembly that hold the blower up into the blower box.
After much price comparison I found the least expensive one at *************** (less than $70) for the motor only. Most places list motors for over $100, or the whole assembly for about $350.

you could dis-assemble clean the motor with some electrical contact cleaner and try to lube the bushings with some light oil. I did that last week while I was waiting for my motor th show up from ********.

If it's a squaking noise, I put a drop or two of transmission oil on the main shaft. has worked for about two years now. Will probalby re-lube in the spring.

I removed the blower today and lubed the bearings and it works for now however I have never seen an armature with so much wear on it and the brushes are worn down pretty far. The armature has lots of grooves and is worn at a taper. Does anyone know how to get the fan off the motor without braking it?
SO

I'm looking for a heater fan and motor because the one in my car is looking like it may not last long. Is any one parting out a car that has a functional fan motor?

I did get the motor out, but found the bearings unable to repair. the ball bearings are set in the motor cage, no separate bearing unit to replace. if yours is in good shape, and can clean it out REALLY well, try setting some wheel bearing grease in there to keep it in good shape.
I just ordered a new blower assembly off ebay it came with a new wheel, a new motor, and a new base assembly. really simple and it came in at around 154.00
