Valve in crossover tube of '96 M606
While cleaning the carbon out of my 1996 E300D (M606 NA engine) I discovered a vacuum-operated valve in the pipe that connects the air cleaner to the intake manifold. The valve is part of the tuning system that makes the engine operate as if it had variable length intakes at different engine RPMs.
I would like to remove this valve while I am cleaning the pipe. I removed both of the small bolts (10 mm wrench) and the valve assembly will rotate but not come out. It may just be tight but I don't want to harm anything. Anyone know if it just pops out or should I leave it alone and clean the pipe with it in place? Jeremy

I wouldn't clean the intake with the flap in place ..... the flap will come out. You can lever a screw driver under one of the edges that overlaps the lip to get it moving up .... then just yank it up .... and it should pop free. Once free you can clean clean the flap and make sure it moves freely.
