Well, the owner of this car took it to my mech and got it fixed.
It was a clogged fuel line.
Gonna go to the shop and redrive it.
My mech said he didn't find anything that was jumping out at
him and telling him it was going to break and nothing that sounded
bad. So I may get this one also.

The interior is shot. Anyone got front seats for an 81 300SD?
Blue?

She just bought a 300D (trip ordeal). She has 1.5 W116 300SDs. Now looking at a W126 300SD. She's hooked...

I work at an Audi dealer. I've driven A3s, A4s and even A8s for several days at a time, but I always look forward getting back into my peeling-painted,black front / gray rear seated, interior squeaking 126. Maybe it's the feeling of bulldozing my way thru traffic when needed. If it were immaculate, I'd probably be a wus behind the wheel..

Well, the car drove decently. The first time I drove it, the car couldn't even get ip to 1200 rpms but this time it was much better. The mech said there wasn't just a clogged line but a couple were knicked, one didn't go where it was supposed to go so they pretty much started over on the rubber lines. All new.
I drove it for about 45 minutes, mostly cuz I got lost in an area I wasn't familiar with and had to back track to find the way back to the shop.
I got it to run on the WVO in the back tank and it smoothed out nice and sounded good.

So I paid to get it out of hock and got the keys. Will go get it tonight after the DH gets home. Then we'll meet the owner tonight and give him cash.

So now we have 4. Hmmmmm, yup, hooked.
The 81 SD Greasecar will be the bar delivery car. Free fuel every Monday when I change fryer oil. Now I'll have to get the filter set up at the bar.
Pics soon, since I know I'll get 8 posts asking for them! LOL!

OK, you have a W116, W123 and W126. Now you KNOW how enamored you are with the W115, and you know where one is with a bad engine? Hmmm, it might need a new home also........
{long term project?}

Brought it home and now I wish we'd not have bought the 82. I now hate it more than I did before. I may just CL it if I decide not to put money into it.
I'm thinking that maybe the 82 is overfueled (is that right? more fuel than needed for the air?). It's just sooooo dern fast! I'm talking 0-60 in 8 seconds fast. There's nothing diesel about it when it's driving. Idling is another story. It's REALLY rough idle.
The idle I think is the reason the banjo bolt dropped out out the engine. Rocks and Rolls at idle.
Tom has drawn a very long thick line in the sand. NO MORE MBs.

On another note, the drive home had Tom in the 81 in front of me. He had the car running on veggie but when we left the hwy and he had to slow down. When he sped up he blew out black smoke. This happened every time he had to slow down and then speed up. This was on veggie oil, spearate fuel tank, separate fuel lines up to the fuel filter. Why would the car give off black smoke while running veggie?
Thanks!

On the black smoke, this is purely a guess but may result from incomplete/inefficient atomization of the thicker VWO. The grease guys can chime in with their thoughts.

The hated W123 may benefit from new motor mounts and shocks. Probably needs injector work (cleaning/replacement). Possibly a rack damper adjustment/replacement would help idle. Eight second timing is not possible, but there is guite a bit of variation in the perceived "peppiness" of these cars. The W123 has a first gear start. Your old W116 has a first gear start , in theory , IF the electromechanical device that downshifts it to first when you apply the brake is working.

If your 300D does 0-60 in 8 seconds I'm first in line to buy it!

I swear it's that fast.
I can pull out into any traffic and not worry about getting hit.
It goes as fast and as quick as a gas engine.

My 300D feels pretty quick in traffic too, but it's not anyplace near 8 seconds (especially not at 6000 feet), maybe closer to 15 seconds. Try timing it when you have a chance.

All of the 300 turbo cars are quick if they are in tune. Ours will all take off like crazy if you bury the pedal. Especially the 300D, it will ZIP right along. Probably because its a little lighter....and it has an amazingly good engine. ZERO blowby. At all.

Crazy, crazy for buying so many. . .
Crazy, crazy for spending soo much.

I gave the Greasecar a bath and a bit of wax some places. I want to see if there is shine under the oxidation and it seems there is.
The paint is pretty bad in the front where the paint chips from rocks but it's a delivery vehicle and from 10 feet away it's not bad. I washed the dash and front seats, someone exploded a soda in there so now the climate control buttons no longer stick.

And it's not white, I think it's the Pastel Grey.
