617 Fuel Filter Seals

I am replacing the secondary fuel filter on my 300D, the Bosch filter I used came without crush washer and O-ring. I have found the crush washer has a 19mm ID and 1mm thickness, but don't know the dimensions or the number of the O-ring.

I don't have the dimensions handy, but here are the part numbers:

007603-018101
copper washer, 18mm i.d.

003-997-58-48
o-ring

000-997-00-48
o-ring

Different years take different combinations of these parts.

The 617's are a PITA here, the dealer actualy needed my cars vin to figure out what seals it needed. Some don't even use a crush washer...

Even with a new bolt, and the proper seals I still could never get mine to seal perfectly, it always wept. If I was planning on keeping the car I would have replaced the aluminum filter mount.

Mine leaks fuel constantly and I have finally gotten it to slow down a bit. I suppose next time I go to the local Pick nPull I will look for a housing. It is frustrating to see perfectly good diesel just leak to the pavement.

Boy - this is really helpful to know! I've done my primary (the inline filter) without trouble as I just loosened the clamps.

I haven't done my secondary (the spin on yet) and it's good - I wasn't too sure about the seals, and now I am glad that I waited to get around to it. For sure I'll be heading to the dealer to pick up the correct parts before doing this!

Palangi,
Thanks, I ended up using a fiber washer from my NAPA, and an O-ring that was just small enough to jam in. the old O-ring had a square cross section and looked to have been in place for a couple of decades. If any one has the dimensions of the O-ring I would appreciate the info otherwise I will go to MB next time. Has anyone had a reaction between the copper washer and the aluminum parts?

Copper crush washer, 19mm ID, 22mm OD. 1mm thick.
"O" ring, 11mm ID, 14mm OD, 2mm thick.
Hope this helps.
