Replacing Injector Nozzles

Hello all,

I am planning on replacing my injector nozzles on my 99 E300 and have a few questions.

1. Do I need to remove the intake manifold to pull the injectors?
2. Those who have done this, how long does it usually take?
3. Should I replace anything else while I'm doing this?
I just had the orings and fuel lines replaced.

I did a search step by step procedures on how to do this, but i didn't find one for the 99 E300.
Anyone know if there are step by step procedures for a 99 E300?

Also, anyone have any advice on how I should do this?

Thanks for all your help guys.

You guys rock!!!

The inj's are under the black plastic cover on top of the head.

If you are buying new inj's they are pnp; if purchasing nozzles only they should be pop and spray tested.

You'll need a 22mm super deep very thin walled socket (mb tool has a cut out to clear the return line barbs too), new heat sheilds and probably new return lines.

First don't replace them doing that will probably cause more harm then good. After removing the injectors take them to your local diesel shop and have them tested for pop pressure and spray pattern. Fix any that fail. My friends 1998 with 150k miles on it had one faulty injector, the other 5 were fine.

On the 606 you need a special socket to remove the injectors, the intake comes off in like 5 minutes, super simple just need a set of gaskets. You can get the socket from MB.

FYI

22mm on 606 inj's. Gonna need to be ~5" long and VERY thin walled to fit down inside the valve cover.

27mm is for the 617 era inj's.

Is the 5" deep measured inside the deep socket or is that the over all length of the socket?

The 5" dimension is not exact; hence the tilde in front of it in my prior post. From looking at the MB socket online and personal observation looking down into the recessed valve cover its a long way down to the bottom.

Thanks. I also have only see the picture of the socket also and I have no vehicle available to check in person. When I was down at the local Sears I bought for $4 a 22mm deep socket and I wondered if it would be long enough for injector removal (the appear to be getting rid of the old stock which is being replaced with lazer ingraved sockets).
