615 = 616? transmission

Another manual transmission question, would a cast iron 4 speed from a 220D (615) be the same transmission from a 240D (616) I'm pretty sure they are, but I just wanted to ask. The only dumb question is the question not asked at all...
Thanks

I am about 90% sure they are the same.

You might try posting this question on the vintage forum also.

The early 123s carried the same tranny, I believe. The later 123s had the aluminum case.

Yep . I just parted out a 220D and its trans is identical to the one I pulled from a 230/6 and fitted to the 240D.

Yes, the same. Note that the cast iron 4-speed used in the W123's also have a 115 part number.
