I am pretty sure several folks here have reported bent rods on replacement blocks.

If so, the number (or percentage) is far, far lower than with the originals. Personally, I would take chance that the new motor will be OK.

I eliminated the EDS from controlling boost and EGR only. It's still controls the idle speed and may have some control over the glow plug system and trigger the shut down switchover valve and a few other jobs.

There are NO emission controls on the 606 in my '93 300SD!

Someone on one of these forums unplugged every thing from the harness of an '86-'91 except maybe the shutoff switchover valve and stated that the engine ran the same and that even the internals in the injection pump maintained idle speed. I haven't tried that yet.

I also want to remove the door from the air flow sensor. The European S300 with the 606 engine doesn't have the air flow senser. My understanding is that the EDS is used primarily to control the vacuum waste gate and EGR valve. Since there is no EGR on my engine and the waste gate is pressure controlled the EDS doesn't have much to do.

Study the pictures and you will see how I bypassed the EGR and vacuum waste gate controller. The intake manifold and the engine oil will stay cleaner longer!!

My conversion eliminated all but one of the lousy push on fuel line connections.



I even removed the jungle of tubing and switchover valves from in front of the air filter housing. I just left the vacuum lines that go across to the right side and end up in the passenger compartment for the climate control.
