Cleaning the sending unit is super easy. If you take the first aid kit holder out (it's above the back seat), you'll see the top of the sender right under it. I used a monkey wrench to free it up and get it out. Disconnect the wiring going in to the sender, remove it from the tank (make sure you have a bucket to catch all the fuel that's going to come out of it. There's a rubber donut at the bottom of it, if you grab it with a pair of needle nose you should be able to loosen it up. The sheeth comes off of the sender and you'll be able to see the float on a rod. There are some piano wires surrounding the float, make sure you don't break them. Clean the rod that the float is on with some brake cleaner to make sure it can go up and down smoothly. Took me like half an hour from start to finish to do it, and it's definetly worth it to know what you've got left in the tank.
