606 fuel filter question

There is a 19mm bolt that tightens the fuel filter to the housing. What is the purpose of the nob in the center of that 19mm bolt? The nob is broken off but I can still turn the shaft. Should it be tighten clockwise or counter clockwise? Is this a bleeder? Thanks, Jay

Correct.

It has a couple of orings that should come in the box with a new main filter. They probably havent been replaced in a long time.......

O rings for shut off

What brand of main fuel filter has the O rings included in it's box for the shut off valve??

I have always had to get these separately from the dealer. Dave

I always order mine from Phil. I sometimes get Mann, other times Knecht. They always have extra orings my application doesnt use (simple bolt).

I think "kill switch" is a better term for the button mounted on top of the fuel filter.

The shutoff valve is the black plastic electro-hydralic valve on the side of the IP. That oring BTW is 2.5mm x 12mm OD.

Yeah, I too have heard of these mysterious o-rings that come w/ the filters. I would like to know who includes them w/ their filters. Also, who sells a new drain plug w/ purchase of an oil filter??

Knob?

What is this manual shutoff knob? My '96 should have the same M606 engine as the '95 but I don't see any knob around the fuel filters. Is mine different or missing something?

Jeremy - 95's had a kill switch/button type plunger (that did the same job as the old stop lever) on the top of the filter housing.

'96 and on 606's didn't.

What is the primary purpose of the kill switch at the main filter? Is it just to shut off the fuel flow in the event that your engine 'diesels"? Are there other times one would use the switch?

Duh!

Oh, right! Terry, thanks. I'll bet that the '96 and later have an electric fuel shut-off on the IP instead of vacuum, as in earlier engines. The manual shut-off, of course, is for the times when the vacuum fails to shut off the engine. Question: Why the manual button in the '95? Does that first version of the OM606 engine still have a vacuum shut-off? Was it a case of "belt-and-suspenders" on the part of the Mercedes designers? Or something else?

Jeremy

Does the '95 606 use an electrically-actuated rack modulator, as on the '96 and up?
