Increasing HP in a 617

Is there any way to increase HP safely without
excessive loss of fuel economy?

Another thread got me thinking about this and
god knows a 300D is underpowered. What can I do?

You currently have 123 hp rated engine output.

How much horsepower do you want?

What would you be willing to spend to achieve that figure?

Then we can give you an answer............

probably less due to age and condition of the engine. Also isnt the 123 hp measured at the crank?

you can always

up the injection pump
install a pyrometer
install an intercooler ( A/W or A/A)
upgrade the turbo
put some CLK wheels for less rolling weight
lower the car on some vogtlands for better handling
gut the interior

The stock IP can't produce 200hp..........therefore, yours would need to make a round trip to Finland for modifications.

Then, you'll need a giant turbo with a huge intercooler. A/C condenser is probably out. A new exhaust is definitely required.

Figure $5K in parts (including the reworked IP) to get it all done........and a good bit of your own labor.

It's possible.

These guys devote a whole forum to the discussion, and they'll help you with it if you decide to go that way:

http://www.schumanautomotive.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=19

It won't affect fuel economy unless you use the power...........keep your foot out of the fuel and it's the same old diesel that you already know and love.

I must be retarded becuase I feel a 617 has ample power...

I mean, I can get on the freeway, keep up with traffic on the hills, pull out, and get going over 100mph. How is that underpowered?

And yes, I have driven newer, faster cars.
