Unhappy 1985 300d Turbo Car Alarm won't turn off

A few months ago the car alarm in my 1985 300D went off. I have no idea why the alarm went off, it has gone off before, but only very rarely. Well one day it went off when I opened the door. I opened the door with the key, and the door unlocked but when I opened the door the alarm went off.

In the past when the alarm has gone off (it happened once or twice before) it stopped once the door was shut then opened properly. Well it didn't work this time. I shut the door and locked it and it stopped, but once I unlocked the door and opened it again the alarm went off again.

I drove the car home with the alarm going off (people probably thought I was a some crazy guy with a siren) and when I got home I tried to turn it off, but couldn't turn it off. So I just removed the horn for the alarm. This worked fine for me other than the fact that the alarm locked up the trunk. The only way I can get into the trunk is through the emergency trunk release. It works alright for me, and hasn't bothered me too much, but I would like to fix it so I can get into my trunk easier.

So if anybody could help me by telling me how to turn off the alarm or disable it, it would be extremely helpful. If no one knows how to turn off the alarm does anyone know how to cut power to it or something?

I have an 85 300D, I didn`t know they came with an alarm. maybe it was
add on? I sure do not have an alarm on mine.

Our 84SD has a factory alarm, my wife found out accidently one day, it
went off and she had to drive through town to the MB guy we use to get
help.
I think on it you insert the key and turn one direction or the other to
disable it.

If you can, sign up for the norcal get together march 29, we`ll take a look
at it. there is about 34 of us so far.

Didn't know the 300d had a factory alarm. Guessing it's aftermarket.

Your trunk SHOULD.... i repeat, SHOULD in a perfect world.... be mechanically unlockable with the key in the trunk lock regardless of the electronics.

I disconnected mine to get rid of it, but it was factory.

Actually quite a few of the 85's had the factory installed alarm system. The "brain" usually resides in the panel to the right of the front passenger's feet. You can likely defeat the alarm by pulling the large electrical connector off of the module. Also on those cars equipped with the alarm system, there is usually a hand operated cable under the rear seat cushion that will allow the trunk latch to be manually released. Takes two people, one pulls the cable and the other pushes the trunk latch button and lifts the trunk lid.

My '84 300CD came with a factory alarm - it's on the window sticker and was not an add on. When it went bad 8 or 9 years ago, I removed the relay and everything was fine. As someone else said, the trunk should unlock with or without the alarm activated - are you sure you are trying to unlock it with a master key? The trunk and the glove box will not lock or unlock with the service key. The master key has a square head and the service key head is rounded.

Trunk

Thanks for the info on the alarm. The trunk is unlocked and I can open it when a used the emergency trunk release. I tied a string from the cable so I can pull the release and open the trunk on my own. But it is a pain...

Well if the alarm is not the reason for the trunk locking up, what is and is there anything to do to fix it?

Thanks
Rick
