My new $250 benz
Its real cruddy and smokes real bad (pretty sure its blown turbo seals) but it sure does idle nicely. PO said it sat for 5 years.
Many thanks to tjsietz for the tow. http://winmutt.com/images/benz/bluebenz/DSC00371.JPG http://winmutt.com/images/benz/bluebenz/DSC00372.JPG http://winmutt.com/images/benz/bluebenz/DSC00373.JPG http://winmutt.com/images/benz/bluebenz/DSC00374.JPG http://winmutt.com/images/benz/bluebenz/DSC00375.JPG http://winmutt.com/images/benz/bluebenz/DSC00376.JPG http://winmutt.com/images/benz/bluebenz/DSC00377.JPG |
wow, looks like it has one foot in the grave. Hope you can do something with it.

What are your plans? Driver or parts? Good price for either route.
|
Parts.
Interior is color match for wifes car I think. Engine *seemed* to be in great condition other than creating LOTS of smoke. Ext is a color match for tjsietz car but most of the parts he needs are not so good. Interior is AWFUL. Sat for 5 years..... |
Can't really beat a running parts car for $250, great find.
|
You gonna paint it like the General Lee? :D
|
it runs and moves, easily worth 250. Congrats!
|
wow what a deal, the wheels alone are worth more than that.
|
Pardon the alliteration.
But that's better
than a Buick in Bosnia!! Could be a real diamond in the rough. It might clean up really nice!!! |
You never know. After a good cleaning, the cheapo $500 240D I bought last turned out to be in the best shape, body-wise than all the others I have.
|
Good find. If you are going to do the Dukes of Hazzard thing, time to go on a diet:D. the green flocking paint job is something new.
I never seem to locate these cheap cars around here, every one seem to think they are gold plated. I rented a U-Haul trailer and that fender tilts sideways so you can open the door. Looking in the back ground, looks like a nice area you live in, kind of earl. some of these hoity toity neighborhoods can`t get away with much. Charlie |
nice car trailer... mine is homebuilt for the most part, I have the deck high enough so all but the lowest cars' doors open over the un fendered tires... oh, and I have a winch for pulling on/off the cars. also a remote control for it, so loading/unloading is a one man operation.
I just took another look at your trailer... WOW that thing is HUGE. what is that 12" channel on the walls? and are those wheels 18" rims? GORSH! what do you haul normally with that thing? forklifts? backhoes? |
Nice find, Rolf!

The Pull-A-Parts around here only charge $11.48 for an aluminum wheel, tire or not. |

that's boffo, Bwana! A better beater'd be a ***** to bring home. |
Looks like you got me beat for the cheapest car of the weekend. :D I spent $300 and $400 on the ones I found.

Great deal! Maybe you can flip it for a higher profit to a Greaser!
|
The thought has crossed my mind to put my old engine in there and sell it. I also like the idea of driving a numbers matching 50yr old benz when I retire.
|
Nice find man!
|
Thats cheap!
I missed a 84 300TD for $650 with like 190K. He said I was number 6 to "see it". I said I'll send you $650 now. He let the 1st guy see it and it sold. Nice trailer too. |
Toms trailer not mine. Same day there was a CL post for $650 for one in much better condition with transmission issues. Oh well I am going to do compression test this weekend and make sure I haven't wasted my money.
|
wasted money.. heh.. if the body panels are rust free you've got parts to put on ebay and some money to make back at the scrapper!
|
You guys got it good ...

I've been looking for a set of nice bundt's for the longest time to put my summer tyres on. Summer's coming and I still haven't scored a set at the right price :( |
That one looks like a good candidate to hot rod to me. :D
|
An excellent recovery! Caint be alot involved with DIY replacement of blown turbo seals.
Really cool thing about $250 - $500 MB is with elbow grease and know-how, it's service to the community reselling em and keepin em on the road. It's like when 240D's bottomed out in market value a few years ago and folks couldnt give em away. Now skyrocketed up to thousands of dollars in reasonable decent (restored or original) condition. Not one nickle you throw into that 300D will be lost assuming you turn yer own wrench, says me. |
About like our trailer... except try loading a SDL on and off the thing. Exhaust bolts and things drag alarmingly every time, we have to line up JUST right with all the banks and hills and ditches and things so as not to scoop with the back bumper but still add some clearance (By reducing the angle of descent) for the exhaust (and the body, for that matter).
Last time we misjudged it just a bit. Back bumper was just about ready to scoop the bank behind the car and the front wheels were on the first or second rungs of the ramps. Ended up just pulling the trailer out from under it... desperate times, desperate measures :D |
Too bad you already spent the $250. Look what you could've gotten.

I picked up a 240D for $300.00 five years ago, and it's been my daily driver ever since. I've put 60,000 miles on it. I love these cars.
