W124 locked
Hi All,
I just picked up a "lonely" 1987 W124 300DT from an auction. I got it delivered to my house but the doors are locked. I do not think I want to wait another 3-4 weeks before I get the title and can go with the title to the dealer to get a key. Is there any easy way to open a door? If it helps, the hood is open, but all doors and the trunk are closed. Any help would be appreciated. Best, Greg

A long piece of wire coat hanger can be bent and manipulated to pull up the lock button without harming the paint.............sometimes.

I've seen that in movies, and tried it once on my other car - it did not work very well. I am not sure what I need to pull up there and/or where I need to insert the hanger/flat metal piece.

So, where would I try to insert the hanger - above the door?

As I recall, the insertion point was the top, and to the rear, of the driver's door. It may require (purists, close your eyes) a slight pulling of the top of the door away from the body but this can be easily restored to its previous position.
Now, I'm not saying I'd try this on a new CLS500 or such. Just sayin'........

The lock smith will come with his Lock-out kit. He'll pull out a small plastic wedge and stiff wire with right angle hook one end and a handel on the other.
He will place the wedge into the top of the door and pry it open enough to let the wire lock knob puller be inserted. Then he'll pull up on the knob. The plastic wedge is what makes the procedure easy. A nice soft pine wedge fine sanded , childs building block or solid door stop can be substituted for the Pro tool. A welding rod with a hook bent at a right angle is better than a flimsy hanger. You can also google up slim-jim or lockout kit and order one.

Thanks Guys! I am a purist in the sense that I do not let anyone touch my cars, so any advice that says call someone is wasted on me. I actually have a slim jim but I do not know where I put it I will order a key from MB but for that I have to have a title or a bill of sale with the VIN on it (which will take two-three weeks to get in). I'll manufacture some device and carefully pry the top open...

I may be mistaken about this, but if you pull the vacuum line under the hood that goes to the locks, and blow into it or suck on it, (I am not sure which way opens and closes the locks) will it not unlock the doors? I remember reading a post about a guy who I believe locked his keys in the trunk and was able to pull the line from under the drivers side carpet and unlock the trunk by doing that.
Let us know if it works. Richard

It's a 124, the vacuum-lock system doesn't leave the cabin. The closest you'll get is under the right tail-lamp.

Funny thing is, ... I was thinking the same thing, but have recently stripped an '87, and can picture the path of the yellow (lock) vacuum hoses. Unfortunate, those Germans like their cars locked.
