'87 300D problems

Well, I replaced the rear differential mounts and I still have a clunk, not as pronounced as before, when the car shifts. It is more like a dull thud at this point. Would the tranny mount cause something like this.

Same car, different problem. The car appears to be sitting a little low in the rear and high in the front. I replaced the shocks and all of the links a few months back and it did cure some of my problems, but the appearance just doesn't seem right. How do you test to see if the springs are sagging? Is there a height measurement that can be done? Why would the front seem too high?

Same car, another problem. When sitting at idle, the engine is makinig a weird tapping noise. It doesn't sound like valves. Am wondering if it could be teh vacuum pump. What are the audible symptoms of a vacuum pump going bad, if any.

Same car, last problem...today. Tranny fluid is still leaking. I have replaced the gasket, twice. I have ensured it is torqued to the correct specs and it is still leaking. I am guessing it is time for a new pan and gasket??? If this doesn't solve the leak I am going to start pulling out hair.

General question. Is diesel purge snake oil, or does it work? My '84 is rough starting. Just replaced the glow plugs and reamed the holes. Valves are properly adjusted. Filters are new. Am going to try the diesel purge if it really works, and if this doesn't solve the problem, then I'll be taking her to the indy for a look. I truly hate taking my cars to somone else as I am very mechanically inclined, but am tired of chasing problems I can't seem to solve.

Sorry to bombard with all of the questions, but I am ready to place an order for other parts and would like to include any other items on the order that might solve the above problems. Plan on doing pads on the '87, rotors and pads on the '84, motor mounts and engine shocks on the '84 while I am doing the oil cooler lines. Aside from the above problems, my cars are in great shape but these little problems are bugging me and I'd like to solve them.

Thanks.

The clunk in my car is due to bad motor mounts, and it also sttme to tap, more in reverse or park than in drive with the foor on the brake.
Have you change the trans pan gasket, or did it just start leaking? Is there a vent up above or a line that it could be comming from? got to get under there and see wher it is truly comming from.

My motor mounts were just done about 5 months ago so i doubt this is the problem. As far as the leak goes, I replaced the gasket. This all started when I had a leak in a power steering line. I thought it was tranny fluid so I tore into the tranny. I developed an even worse leak sicne the tranny wasn't leaking in the first place. I fixed the power steering leak and am left with a leaking tranny. I have no idea if there is a vent line, or any other place, for the transmission to leak from. Anyone out there know of other places to check for leaks. I doubt it is leaking from somewhere else since the only thing I removed was the transmission pan...seems like the likely place to start.
