I just LOVE the idea of that. A year and a half ago Zack (Boardmonger) had a beautiful Orient Red one of these, and I almost bought it.

These are almost as quick as a US spec one with a turbo, and you get a MANUAL transmission!!!.

Gray market cars like that do come up every now and then, but not so much as you think, because the BIGGEST savings back then were realized more in buying the top of the line gray market S class new cars.

Only $1900, I wonder whats wrong w/ it? I'd try to sell mine for at least 2x that. Not that ebay is any real indicator of value, but I've seen the 5 speed w123s go as hi as $6500.
