What do you think?

I am thinking of buying a 92' Mercedes 300SD. It is in very good condition, and is in Florida, with only 176,000 miles. What do you think is the most I should pay for it to be a good deal. I think maybe upto $5,000. It has the 3.4L 6 cylinder turbo diesel engine in it. It is very clean and looks like it's in brand new condition. If anyone knows anything about these cars, please say so, I mean negative or positive. Thanks!

Do a search for "rod bender" on this site, and you'll find out why the engine in that car is possibly one of the least desirable of the Mercedes diesel lineup.

In the rare event that the previous owner recently had the engine replaced with a new one, or they swapped in a 3.0L block, I would consider it. But if it has the factory 3.5L engine, I myself wouldn't touch it.

A 300SD has a 3.0L engine, that's what the 300 means.

The 92 (W140) 300SD had the 3.5L 603.97 engine. Not sure why MB badged it that way, since the 126 with the same engine was the 350SD. In 94 when the naming was changed, it was revised to S350.

W140? With rod-bender engine? If it was next door and free, I MIGHT take it. Otherwise I'd pass.

This is true...I own a 90. But we're talking about SD's and 140's here not 300D's and 124's
