delay going into reverse
My 90 sdl tranny has always had a 1~2 second delay going into reverse.
Goes right into drive and shifts VERY well thru the gears without flaring or banging. Couldn't fing anything in search. Anyone know what's happening?

on my 300se, the problen was the reverse clutch set had to much clearance and was causing the delay, the repair i did personally was to remove the transmission and replace all the clutches and shims and verify they had proper clearance and reassemble, after that all was good. see picture below, it illustrates problem area.

When was the fluid last changed?
I'd ignore it because the solution is rebuilding it, and it could last for years doing that. Just don't give it throttle until it engages a gear.

I change tranny fluid & filter w/ mobil 1 atf every 30 K miles. Last change I even found the T. converter drain plug at 6 o'clock!
The delay has been there ever since I got the car ~80K miles ago. I think the 'fix' is to wait a couple seconds eachtime I put her in reverse.
