Do I have the Wrong Fuel Filter?
Since changing both fuel filters a few weeks ago, my car has been leaking fuel, alot. I checked all the lines today, and everything looks fine. When I checked my fuel filters, BINGO (I think).
The secondary filter looks too big, I can see the outer edge of the seal, and the outer lip is full of Diesel! Am I smoking dope, or is this the wrong filter? http://i251.photobucket.com/albums/g...0/DSC01412.jpg http://i251.photobucket.com/albums/g...0/DSC01411.jpg |
Clcik buy parts tab and check part numbers.
Photo is fuzzy, but looks like there may be wetness on the fuel line above the filter too. Did you replace the oring on the shaft of the bolt? |
nope... THAT MUST BE IT. If I recall correctly, there's no O ring at all. Didn't know it existed, thanks.
|
it looks like the top of the housing is wet with diesel. Did you use a new copper washer or reuse the old?
if you have to reuse the old I would anneal it and then sand it down until its flat again. Maybe a light film of gasket material(and I mean a film). |
copper o ring, huh? never saw it. Perhaps I forgot to put it on, or it was never there.
|
it would be aluminum if it has it. some have the aluminum ring and others have o-rings on the shaft of the bolt.
|
if its an 85 there is no washer, copper or otherwise. There are 2 rubber o-rings on the shaft. looks like the right filter to me.

Its leaking around the bolt. Replace those crush washers, some use aluminum others use O rings.

I know that one well my friend. I faught a never ending battle with it during my two year ownership of the 300SD.:D

i couldnt get the big one to seal either. it was from Advance. I got one at NAPA that was the same as the one I took off and it worked perfectly. I will buy some from here next time but the change was not a planned one so I had to buy local

Tomorrow I'm doing fuel filters on the Buttercup. The 116 is easy, take off-put on. Its the 123 not the same? What will I need to look for? Thanks!
|
I've purchased NAPA filters and they don't always come with the crush washers. I think I used an O-ring to prevent leaks on my 240D.
