NSS Fix, searched-not found

I did a search on how to fix the NSS but found nothing.
The 82 sometimes starts in Park but now I've mostly got it started in N.
How do I fix this?
Thanks!

When I had that problem it was bad shifter bushings. The safety switch is possible too but wasn't an issue for me. I could only start in neutral, but the stick felt loose too. Just a thought

I agree with Chad, especially learning some things about that car over the last few days. Not at all out of the question to have worn out shifter bushings, and actually darn likely.
Not a hard job, yet one of the MOST frustrated I've ever been doing something on these cars. Maybe you could borrow the handy dandy tool from somebody, or rent it cheaply. Hell, it's worth it to buy the tool, but renting/borrowing would be a no brainer.......

New linkage bushings usually fixes NSS problems.

double check to make sure the nss is completely seated and connected on the side of the transmission. just recently i had this problem and turns out that my nss does not have the bayonet lock but instead has just a hook and clip lock. and that is either worn out or just popped loose and allowed the nss to act strange. would start at times, sometimes it wouldnt.
check the cheap stuff first.
