2008 E320 Bluetech Available to be leased in ALL 50 states as of Feb 15th, LEASE ONLY

Hey Guys,

Just thought you would find this interesting... The 2008 E320 Bluetech Diesel is available to be leased in New York under a strict program. It is a 24 month lease with the restriction being there is no option to purchase the vehicle out of the lease. Call your local Mercedes-Benz Center for further details. This lease is through Mercedes-Benz Financial Exclusively. Be aware that there is limited availability of the E320 Bluetech...

Lots of Luck Guys!

Yes! Available to New York, California, Maine, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and Vermont.

Later this year ML, GL, and R-Class vehicles will be available as well!

P.S. Get ready ready for the 2009 S400 Hybrid too!

Sounds like they want to test the technology.

Like the sixties Chrysler turbine cars and GM's electric car in the nineties.

Kinda sad to think of all those nice cars potentially going to the crusher after just a few years..... sniff.

they are not allowed to sell them because they have urea injection systems that need service before the designated time that the gov't standard calls out. They can skate around it if they lease them to people rather than selling them.

Interesting. Do they sell them in Canada, perchance? What's the effect of urea injection?

MB needs to rethink this urea injection. Other car makers have apparently found 50-state-legal solutions that don't require urea. VW and Honda are two that come to mind. Look out for the new 50-state-legal Jetta common-rail diesel coming this fall. For those living outside the California-emission states, "normal" MB Bluetecs have been available for purchase in the last 2 years.

The urea injection is in place to control the NOx emmissions. Injecting small amounts into the exhaust post turbo allows for the formation of non-volitile compounds. It forms with the nitrogen oxides and makes inert compounds that can go through the other after treatments. They only have a capacity for so much on board and the quantity used depends on the type and style of driver. It will need to be serviced and maintained by the dealer sometime within the first 100K of the life of the car.

I suppose you can't just shut it off without damaging something down stream?

I'm sure you can drive around without the urea just fine. It just won't meet California emission standards.

Right, last I heard the cars will have a limited number of starts once the urea runs out. Basically get to a dealer or else you won't drive at all.

That makes sense, they will have to do something to force people to have the system refilled.

Its probably a two wire sensor on the reservoir, and we know how easily those are fooled......

There are sensors in the exhaust that detect the amount of NOx in it if it is continually over a certain threshold it will throw a CEL

Will they finally get 4matic?

MB is making a hybrid S class? Yuck, WTF are they thinking? I thought they were to smart to jump on the hybrid bandwagon.

While we may be smart enough to know that hybrids are generally dumb, your average person is ignorant and simply wants "A hybrid" to show off and brag about. If lexus sells a hybrid flagship car, MB will have to do the same, else lose a bunch of potential sales. It may not be engineering-logical....but its fiscally and please-the-people logical. The hybrid stuff also lets them eek a little extra fuel economy out of a really powerful car while at the same time having lots of off the line power and good in the city mileage when that 5.5 V8 would just be idling away all of your fuel and $$ anyways. However, the system must be equally or more reliable than the engine-only setup, or else its dumb and pointless.

Well this proves once again that hybrids are mostly about looks. Because who give a damn about fuel mileage on a $100k car. Answer, no one.
