Primer Pump Help Please

Question on a primer pump when you pump it is the fuel suppose to spurt out from the pump? it is coming out all over the handle and pouring down the side of the pump it self.

Thank you,

replace it from the parts link above.

Your pump is old and leaky. You need a new one!

No mine did until I replaced it. No it does not leak at all.

Time to replace it. Replacement is pretty simple and the new style pump is not that expensive. You can probably continue to use the existing pump as long as it is not sucking air when it is screwed down tight.

Ummmm do I have to replace the whole thing or just the pump part? and I believe it is sucking air I can not keep it running for than a minute and it dies even if i have my foot to the floor.

The little pump unscrews from the injection pump this is a small
item and costs less tan $20.

This is probably a mandatory fix as soon as you buy one of these cars. I'm so mad at myself that I've delayed this on my 300D. Changed my primary today and now I've got a colossal leak at the primer. Probably going to shorten the life of the right motor mount now. Vice grips work well to remove and replace by the way. Otherwise you need a crows foot.

This is the first thing I did on all five of the MB's I've owned.
I also used vise grips to remove the old one.
While you're at it, replace all the fuel lines too.

I hope you dont mean vise grips to replace, please just remove the fitting on the right side and use a wrench on the primer pump flats, it only takes an extra minute or two.

Update, I use vise grips to remove, and a stubby open end to install.

There are 3 fuel lines that are plastic. If they are brown, they are old and
brittle, I snapped the the one with the 3 way off the top of the filter. It`s
a dealer item, it cost me $40.00. the new one is clear, soft, and pliable.
If you are not going to replace them, be very careful. mine snapped like a
potato chip.

There was a thread about 3 months ago where the member said he went to the hardware store and bought the clear tubing (he tells you what type in the thread). What I can remember about the thread is that after removing the old tubing from the banjo fitting he heated the end of the new tubing and shoved it onto the banjo fitting.
Question: Is there any reason why 1/4 inch rubber fuel line could not be used to replace the clear plastic ones?

boondoc holiday 02-26-2008 03:37 PM

ladams, did you order the primer pump like you were suggested before? if not, just go to the dealer or a local euro parts store and get it. it is cheap. 12 bucks online.

bigfredb 02-26-2008 04:06 PM

Yes replace the primer pump.

Before you do however, check the engine mount. If it has been leaking for some time, you may need to replace that as well . . . (from experience - see thread "When bad mounts go worse"
