Diesel Purge, other than Lubro Moly?
Can we do a purge with something other than Lubro Moly?
Can I do it with Diesel Kleen? Thanks!

It should burn. No comment on the effectiveness as a purge, though. Might work... I use it in every tank of diesel, anyway.

Marvel mystery oil perhaps. I would run it direct from a container as mentioned on the site. Also I would shut the engine down when it was about half consumed. Let it soak in there for an hour or so before running the rest through. The stuff is cheap and available.
If this car is or has been on vegatable oil I am not very clear on what I would expect. There might be a better chemical available. Check an alternative fuels site. Wvo is a good cleaner itself but it can leave residues I suppose. Remember the old line of a restaurant owner? I will stop burning wvo when the chips are down. |

I have used Sea Foam. Started using it on my marine equipment first, then got the diesel disease .
I use a 1 liter soda bottle, fill it with the Sea Foam, and then a little transmission fluid or diesel. By the end of the cleaning fluid in the bottle is very dark/black.

The car gives off a very black smoke from a stop or when the car is under real load. Now I know that big semis do this but none of our other MBs do this.
I'm wondering since the car sat for 6 months before we bought it, we've put about 200 mi or so, and it runs on WVO for most of it's miles that maybe there's loads of soot and general black nasty build up. I think a purge would help the smoke, or am I wrong?

It is possible that the IP has been turned up, the car has been "tuned" for more power.
If there isn't a driveability problem and the smoke is only under load, it doesn't sound like an injector problem. Run RedLine Diesel Fuel Catalyst for a couple of tankfulls, will run quieter and cleaner.

Hmmm, could be.
But I don't really like the smoke. I think it gives the impression that my car is a bad car to the other drivers on the road. They also give me wide berth around the car. And today I was at a stop and had a couple on a motorcycle behind me. So when I started moving I smoked out the cycle and they gave me dirty looks. I felt bad. What other should I look for?

Drive it a block or so with the air filter element removed and check. Or if the air cleaner element is really dirty Change it. It is not getting enough air to totally combust the fuel and burn clean. Common problem sometimes. Also can hurt fuel milage. If you have already covered this just excuse me.

Biodiesel straight works really well if you can get a gallon or two. Kills fungus too!
