Hard to describe noise past three weeks. This is an 87 300D which is an occasional driver. New brakes about 10 months ago, perhaps 2000 miles on those.
Noise is a groan or scraping from left front. Started at parking speeds with wheel turned to left. Has also happened in reverse both during braking and for a moment after stopping while backing down a steep driveway, and now even while driving strait. This noise is hard to describe more RRRRfffff like 2 card board scraching together. It sounds like scraping, but not a metal on metal squeal sound. No warning lights or signs of difficulty braking. Any Ideas? Thanks |

I'd go with the front wheel bearing or a caliper hanging up.

Get the wheels in the air and spin them.

As long as there is not a lot of perceptible play in the wheel, I'd drive it 50 miles.
thats just me, though....
