Exclamation 300d 87...hard To Discribe Noise!!help!!

Hard to describe noise past three weeks. This is an 87 300D which is an occasional driver. New brakes about 10 months ago, perhaps 2000 miles on those.
Noise is a groan or scraping from left front. Started at parking speeds with wheel turned to left. Has also happened in reverse both during braking and for a moment after stopping while backing down a steep driveway, and now even while driving strait. This noise is hard to describe more RRRRfffff like 2 card board scraching together. It sounds like scraping, but not a metal on metal squeal sound. No warning lights or signs of difficulty braking. Any Ideas? Thanks

I'd go with the front wheel bearing or a caliper hanging up.

Get the wheels in the air and spin them.

As long as there is not a lot of perceptible play in the wheel, I'd drive it 50 miles.
thats just me, though....
