W124 will not stop

Hi All,

So, I finally got the fuel system primed, engine ran like a champ (87 300DT 603.960). I turn the key to off, engine still runs like a champ. Push the "STOP" lever under the hood, engine still runs like a champ. I had to disconnect the fuel line to make it stop. So here they come (the questions):

1. If the key turn of would indeed work, is the choke valve on the injector pneumatic (vacuum) or a direct electric solenoid. If someone could also elaborate on all the vacuum lines and electric connectors going to it that would be appreciated. I have attached a figure with some numbers on it for identification (i.e., paly the game of what is the name and function of the number in the picture )

2. The "STOP" lever seems strange, what should be its resting position, and why does it go up (not always) as well as down. I figure if I push it down a little the engine should stop. I pushed and pulled and nothing happened. I looked at pictures and my lever does not bend above the pump it lays flat next to it.

3. Is there a better way to stop the engine in a situation like this? As I had to disconnect the fuel line before the fuel pump, it took about 10 minutes for the engine to stop.

Thanks,

Greg

to kill it-block off the air supply- unhook the air tubing @ turbo, have a block of wood ready to cover it with.

I am pretty sure the #4 in pic is the fuel shut off- should be vac powered. unhooked, it will allow engine to run. apply vac, shuts off fuel.
I am more familiar w/ the 617, though.

Isn't #4 some idle control solenoid? and number #4 the stop valve? Also, I suspect #6 to be ALDA, but what is #5 (something electronic).

Push the stop lever all of the way down. #3 is the vacuum line to the stop lever.
