w123 not holding in park

W123 automatic is not holding in park. Is there a linkage adjustment or is this an internal locking gear problem? Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.

Most likely its caused by worn shifter bushings. They are small nylon bushings underneath....probably pretty hard to get to in a W123 trans tunnel...not much room.

Worst scenario would be a damaged parking prawler in the tranny, but its unlikely.

I'd look at the shifter bushings first.

Are there any diagrams/pics of the shifter bushings I can review? I don't have any idea what I would be looking for.

Crawl under the car. Look at the bottom of the gear shifter; there is one bushing there. Follow the linkage which connects to the shifter on the left side of the transmission; second bushing is there.

Thanks Tango. I'll be under the car tomorrow since I have to replace the alternator too! DMorrison I truly feel your pain now!
