Help - Stuck trying to remove oil filter 300D

Can't believe it. My first oil change on my 1995 300D. 1st step was to remove oil via oil pump which worked fine. 2nd step was to remove and replace oil filter. 3 bolts - 2 on the side and one in the middle. I thought I could just remove 2 on the sides and pull it out. I thought the one in the middle just stayed in. So...I can pull it about 3 inches up but then I can't clear the side panel in order to get it the rest of the way out.

What am I doing wrong? Do I have to take out center bolt also?

I am stuck right now and need to use the car tomorrow.

Basically, firewall is very much in the way on this car. The answer was to unclip firewall and move it out of the way. Then the filter and metal cap were very easy to move in and out. Originally, I never thought to move the firewall out the way.

If you pull the center "bolt" out, you can tip to remove the cover.
