my new car: 93 300d 2.5 Turbo - questions...

I just want to say I finally got the car I have been searching for. Its a 93 300D 2.5 Turbo that has done 189,000 miles. She is in good condition and purrs like a kitten. When i went to look at it, it was 13 degrees out, and started on the first attempt, no block heater!

My main concern is a leaky fuel injection pump. It appears that fuel is leaking from one or more of the 5 lines coming out of the top of it. Is this a big issue? When it is idling, you can see fuel drip every few seconds from it. The previous owner said it never used to do it until he got the fuel filters changed. He has run bio-diesel in it. Should I be worried? Any other preventative maintenance I should do? Any good links or DIY sites? Is this injection pump something I can fix myself? Im fairly competant with tools.

Im very excited to be back on the diesel camp (used to have 116 300SD).

Thanks guys.

delivery valve seals

Sounds like your delivery valve seals need to be replaced. Issue with OM60X engines and the switch to ULSD as I recall. Do a search. You'll need a special socket. I bought one but I think you can rent it here. One of the more gratifying fixes I've accomplished (190D om 601). Study the procedure and be aware of the potential complications beforehand. Plenty of info to be found on the site.

Congrats on your purchase.
Change your oil every 5K, There are good DIY on this site. Whats your 0-60 time. If its more than 18 seconds you might have a turbo issue. There is another site that has a section dedicated to W124. Lots of good info to be found.

I had an '86 300sdl that had leaky injection pump delivery seals. The leak kept getting worse. At highway speeds the leak increased in volume reached the exhaust, lost the whole car in minutes in a blazing fireball alongside the highway. I found out later it's apparently an easy job.

Sounds like delivery valve seals to me too. Pretty easy fix.
Congratulations on what I consider one of the best cars MB made available once the wiring harness has been upgraded.

I'm curious to learn more about this. On the 60x engines, the entire fuel system is on the opposite side of the engine from the exhaust, did the return line pop off and soak the hood insulation? Or am I incorrectly thinking this was a 603 car?

Mine likes the Mobil1 diesel 5w-40 that I put in it this summer. Since I've been away at school, I only have about 4,000 miles on that oil change so far. I'm going to take it to probably 7k and do an oil analysis. Previously it ran 15w-40 dino. Since running M1, all but one of my ticky lifters have stopped. I think next change will be Rotella T since it's cheaper, unless I can find jugs of Delvac 1 for cheap.

Wiring Harness

ENGATWORK,

No, don't tell me the 124128(s) were subject to the self degrading wire insulation!

What years?

Pleased to see another W124.128 owner - bought one a couple of months ago. Also using Rotella as my annual mileage fairly low.l

I'm not sure which one it has. Don't think it's the bad one, since I have never heard of one going bad on one of these cars. All the electrics work fine on my car...well minus the cruise, but I'm working on that
